AORN is the professional organization of perioperative registered nurses whose mission is to promote quality patient care by providing its members with education, standards, services, and representation. AORN is composed of approximately 41,000 perioperative registered nurses in the United States and abroad who manage, teach, and practice perioperative nursing; who are enrolled in nursing education; and who are engaged in perioperative research.

The World Conference on Surgical Patient Care is sponsored by AORN. The International Education Program Planning Committee selects the conference theme, provides input into the schedule of activities, and selects the papers that will be presented. The conference was originally developed in response to requests from nurses throughout the world to hold regular meetings to discuss issues facing the perioperative team, examine methods of practice, and learn about the culture and traditions of other countries.

AORN is now accepting speaker proposals for the 2007 World Conference in Seoul, South Korea on October 1-4, 2007. Submissions are reviewed by the country of the speaker's origin. Selected proposals by country are submitted to AORN for distribution and review by members of the International Education Program Planning Committee.
